Sid Krofft is a puppeteer, television producer, writer, and creator renowned for his imaginative children's programming. As the elder half of the iconic Krofft Brothers alongside his late brother Marty Krofft (1937–2023), he revolutionized Saturday morning television in the 1970s with psychedelic, fantasy-driven live-action series featuring oversized puppets, vibrant sets, and whimsical storytelling.
As a teenager, Sid developed one-man shows and later collaborated with Marty on mature puppet productions like Les Poupées de Paris. Their breakthrough came designing characters for Hanna-Barbera's The Banana Splits Adventure Hour (1968–1970). They launched their own empire with Sid & Marty Krofft Pictures, producing landmark shows including:
H.R. Pufnstuf (1969–1971) — their signature psychedelic hit about a boy trapped in a magical world.
The Bugaloos (1970–1972)
Lidsville (1971–1973)
Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (1973–1975, with a 2016 revival)
Land of the Lost (1974–1976, plus 2009 film adaptation and other iterations)
The Krofft Supershow (1976–1978)
Variety specials and series like Donny & Marie, The Brady Bunch Hour, Pryor's Place (1984), and D.C. Follies (1987–1989)
Later credits include Mutt & Stuff (2015–) on Nickelodeon and executive roles in revivals. Honored with a Lifetime Achievement Emmy (2018) and a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, Sid's vivid, effects-heavy style—often called "psychedelic camp"—continues to influence generations, blending puppetry, adventure, and surreal humor. At 96, he still remains active in the industry.
