Richard Chaves is an actor and war veteran who served three years including a tour in Vietnam with the 196th Infantry Brigade, he drew from his combat experiences to co-author and star in the acclaimed stage play Tracers (1985).
Transitioning to screen acting in the early 1980s with soap opera roles, Chaves gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the explosives expert Jorge "Poncho" Ramirez in the iconic 1987 sci-fi action film Predator. His tough, memorable performance as part of the elite rescue team opposite the alien hunter remains a fan favorite.
He followed this success with a starring role as Lieutenant Colonel Paul Ironhorse in the syndicated TV series War of the Worlds (1988–1989), where he appeared in 25 episodes.
His other notable credits include films such as Cease Fire (1985), Witness (1985), The Sicilian (1987), Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam (1987, also providing narration), Night Eyes II (1991), L.A. Takedown (1989), Baja Run (1996), Lost Warrior: Left Behind (2008), and Dark House (2009).
On television, he guest-starred in shows like Miami Vice, MacGyver, L.A. Law, Babylon 5, Star Trek: Voyager ("Tattoo," 1995), and Days of Our Lives.
