Morgan Fairchild is known for her glamorous and commanding presence on soap operas and primetime dramas. She began acting as a child in local theater and drama classes. She landed a breakout role as the volatile Jennifer Pace on the CBS daytime soap Search for Tomorrow (1973–1977). This launched her career, leading to a move to Los Angeles and her iconic turn as the original Jenna Wade in one episode of the hit primetime soap Dallas (1978).

Her stardom solidified with the lead role of scheming socialite Constance Weldon Carlyle on NBC's Flamingo Road (1980–1982), earning her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama. Throughout the 1980s, Fairchild became a staple of glossy dramas, starring as modeling agency head Racine in the short-lived ABC series Paper Dolls (1984) and as attorney Jordan Roberts on Falcon Crest (1985–1986).

She also featured in films like the thriller The Seduction (1982) and made memorable guest appearances on shows including Hotel, Magnum, P.I., Murder, She Wrote, and Murphy Brown (earning an Emmy nomination).

Fairchild continued to captivate audiences with diverse roles, including Sydney Chase on ABC's The City (1995–1996), Chandler Bing's flirtatious mother Nora Tyler Bing on Friends, and guest spots on Cybill, Lois & Clark, and Diagnosis Murder.
